She likes all music, except heavy metal and old traditional music (enka). Watase likes listening to music and reading books, specially scientific (not Sci-Fi) books. Creates yaoi doujinshi as a hobby. She was first introduced to BL by one of her fans, and soon fell in love with Tamahome x Noriko!
In 2014, she blogged that she was subject to editorial harassment while working on Arata Kangatari. She explained that her former editor would bulldoze her ideas to make room for his own and would constantly ask her to redraw scenes, which lead to immense stress and exhaustion.
Biography
Yuu Watase was born in the town of Kishiwada, Osaka, on March 5, 1970. She began her mangaka career at the age of 18 after offering one of her short stories to the publisher Shojo Comics. She avoids the tedious stage of the assistantship which is almost the obligatory passage to become a mangaka. After several short series not exceeding 3 volumes, she launches her first long series which is Fushigi Yuugi with whom she knows the success. It confirms with Ayashi no Ceres which is also a successful series. His stories fall into the category of shōjo manga and most often mix humor and fantasy.
Watase Yuu là một mangaka chuyên sáng tác các truyện tranh thể loại shōjo, và hiện bà đang làm việc cho tạp chí Shoujo Comics. Đặc biệt, trong các tác phẩm của Watase Yuu xuất hiện rất nhiều nhân vật nam có ngoại hình rất xinh đẹp nên nhiều người đánh giá các truyện tranh của bà thuộc thể loại bishōnen. Còn tác phẩm gần đây nhất của bà, Arata Kangatari (2008) lại thuộc thể loại shōnen và được đăng trên tạp chí Shounen Sunday.
Watase thích nghe nhiều thể loại nhạc (ngoại trừ rock nặng và loại nhạc truyền thống enka). Bà thích vừa nghe nhạc vừa đọc sách, đặc biệt là sách khoa học ( ko phải khoa học viễn tưởng). Sensei cũng sáng tác yaoi doujinshi như 1 sở thích, lần đầu tiên bị dụ dỗ vào con đường fan girl là do 1 fan của bà giới thiệu, và ngay lập tức yêu cặp Tamahome x Noriko. =)))))))))))))
Sensei đã từng tự nhận là một đứa trẻ kì lạ vì ngay từ nhỏ đã có máu phiêu du rồi nên không hay chơi với các bạn khác mà… thích suy nghĩ lung tung một mình. Đây cũng là quãng thời gian mà sensei “luyện” tay nghề trong một góc kín nào đó, tự tập làm họa sĩ .
Cho tới tận cấp 2 thì sensei vẫn giành hầu hết thời gian cho việc vẽ tranh và sáng tác. Có lẽ vì vậy mà mặc dù tài năng nhưng sensei không có nhiều bạn và thậm chí là còn bị cho là lập dị (chắc ngó giống otaku quá !). Theo như sensei “tự thú” thì giờ thể dục thì trốn tiết, chẳng bao giờ chịu làm bài tập môn gia chánh. Nên không những bị bạn bè xa lánh mà còn thuộc dạng cá biệt trong lớp. May thay những năm cuối cấp sensei đã “tu tỉnh” để làm người… bình thường. Ngoài công việc của mangaka, Watase Yuu còn là người vẽ minh họa cho sách. Bà còn là thành viên của hội Soka Gakkai. Món yêu thích của bà là thức ăn theo kiểu Nhật truyền thống.

1) Mint de Kiss Me : There is a legend that if you kiss the man you like with a mint candy in your mouth, you can become one with your love. Misono is a rather superstitious girl who decides to test this out on Tohno-sensei, a young teacher she has a crush on. Unfortunately for her, she makes a mistake in the attempt to surprise him and instead kisses her fellow classmate Shindou. Of course this would be the time for the legend to work quite literally as Misono’s spirit enters Shindou’s body. 2) Genseika : Chiya goes to school with her friends and witnesses one of them die suddenly as a flower bursts out of him. The three friends had been together since elementary school, the death hitting Chiya and Yutaka hard. When other people begin dying from the flowers, they investigate possible reasons for such usual deaths. To her surprise, she finds answers close to home. 3) Furimuke Romance! : The hero of girls targeted by guys peeking into the locker room, Taka has quite the violent tomboy reputation. But all she wants is for some handsome guy to ask her out. A cheerful street vendor, Ryouta gives her a special ring with a heart locket pendent to hold pictures. When two photos are enclosed, romance is in the air. 4) Hang in there Nakago : Involves the scenario where Fushigi Yuugi was actually done by real actors. Unfortunately, Nakago (stage name) is a lot more unconfident than the character he plays. At least his one main fan, an unnamed woman with flowers, is there to support him through his worries. |

| Story 1: Gomen Asobase! : Miyagawa Hao has just come to Tokyo from Osaka. To relieve her of a headache, a passing bishounen offers her a packet, which was suppose to have a pill inside. By mistake, the guy gives Miyagawa a very important button. Miyagawa finds out he goes to her same school, which divides the boys and girls with a very large wall. Story 2 & 3: Pajama de Ojama & Pajama de Labyrinth : Legend has it that if you wear the same pajamas as the one you love, you will be transported to him for a short period of time. Misaki Aguri decides to try this out with the person she has a crush on, Isozaki. She never quite gets where she wants to be. Story 4: Koori Musume wa Otoshigoro : Kahyouzan Koori runs into Kazama Shuuhen at the beach (quite literally) and falls in love with him. Her grandmother does not approve of this relationship, and makes a deal with the couple. If she can break a string tied around their fingers, Kazama must leave Kahyouzan. Unfortunately for Kazama, the Koori family has a special ability that he must defend himself against. |
